Pro tip: if you and the crew are traveling from Austin, take your road trip to the next level when you make a pitstop at one (or all 7!) of these places between Austin and Kerrville!

True Texas BBQ + Pint and Plow

We love Pint and Plow’s original location, but it can get quite busy. If you’re searching for their popular brews we recommend visiting H-E-B’s True Texas BBQ for smoked meats and a pint. True Texas BBQ starts with all-natural meats that are slow-smoked to perfection in-house over natural Texas oak wood. And since no Texas BBQ would be complete without the sides, they offer brisket beans, creamed corn, homestyle potato salad, and more. Whether you enjoy it by the plate or the pound, you’ll see why True Texas BBQ was named Best BBQ Chain in Texas by Texas Monthly

Grape Juice

Another staff favorite, Grape Juice truly has something for everyone. Their menu is constantly changing and they use locally sourced products, including their meats. They also have beverages for all taste buds, from local brews to wines from around the world. They have 20 different taps of rotating beers which will be sure to satisfy even the pickiest drinkers. But, what really keeps us coming back is their “Crack”eroni. Order it for yourself and you’ll see why! Pro Tip: closed on Sundays.

Rails A Café at the Depot

As the name describes, Rails is located in a fully restored train depot built in 1915. This spot is a local favorite because of its Hill Country views and homemade American cuisine. Grab a table on their dog-friendly patio, check out the wine list, order one of their signature dishes, and save room for their crème brûlée of the day! Pro Tip: closed on Sunday’s.

The Humble Fork

The Humble Fork is one of the newer spots in Kerrville compared to others on the list, but that hasn’t stopped it from quickly becoming a favorite. Their brunch menu might be Kerrville’s best and they boast one of the top burgers in town. Dinner is no slouch either. Whatever you select, start with the avocado fries.

Mamacita’s

This is where we finish Kerrville Tri weekend and celebrate with our amazing volunteers! Yes we really enjoy their margaritas, but that’s not all. Enchiladas, fajitas, flautas, quesadillas, queso, it’s all delicious. Mamacita’s is a great place to celebrate your accomplishments with friends and family. They have a lot of space, but Mamacita’s does get packed during Kerrville Tri weekend.

Heart Of The Hills Farmers Market

Heart of the Hills Farmer’s Market, founded in 2021, is a remarkable collaboration of Hill Country farmers and producers who joined forces to establish a non-profit, producer-owned, and managed market. Their mission is to support local producers and small businesses, foster a sense of community, and promote sustainability. You can visit this market every Saturday from 9am-1pm located in the River Hills Mall Parking Lot across from Louise Hays Park and HEB.

Kerrville River Trail

Check out the Kerrville Tri run course before race day or just explore the beauty of the entire 6-mile-long Kerrville River Trail on your own. The first segment of the trail was finished in December 2012 with the rest added over the years. With nine trailheads, there are entrances all over town.

Trailhead Beer Garden

If you’re on the River Trail and get hungry or thirsty, head south to the Trailhead Beer Garden. It’s located on the Schreiner University campus and one of the nine trailhead entrances. This is the place to be after a long day or if you would like to continue celebrating your Kerrville Tri accomplishments! Grab some food and a cold beer while you enjoy live music or play sand volleyball, corn hole, & other games.

Kerrville-Schreiner Park

At the southern end of the River Trail lies Kerrville-Schreiner Park. It has 517 acres of everything for individuals and families who love spending time outdoors. If you can’t pack all your activities into one day, stay a night or two. They have RV sites, tent camping, and cabins. Explore more of the trails, spend an entire day in a kayak, or see how many fish you can catch. This is also an excellent place to stay during Kerrville Tri weekend!

We brought the 9 best Kerrville spots to you, now you have to decide where to go. That’s the hard part with so much to enjoy. That’s why we recommend staying for the weekend. Eat at different restaurants, soak up the Guadalupe River, and create a memorable Texas Hill Country experience.
